Our Story — SOOS HEELS
The Name
SOOS. Four letters. Two souls. One vision.
The name is born from SOPHIA and OSCAR — a husband-and-wife partnership that built one of Italy’s most respected artisan footwear manufacturers. It began not in a boardroom, but across a workbench in a small Italian atelier, surrounded by the scent of Tuscan leather and the rhythm of hand-stitching. SOOS is not a corporate acronym. It is a promise. A signature. A love letter — to each other, and to the craft they have dedicated their lives to.
Where It All Began — The Making of an Italian Shoe Factory
Sophia had an eye for silhouette. Oscar had hands that understood leather. She could look at a sketch and see the woman who would wear the shoe; he could look at raw calfskin and know exactly how it would drape over a last. Together, they would become one of the most sought-after artisan footwear manufacturers in Tuscany.
They met in Tuscany — she was apprenticing under a master pattern-maker in Florence; he was the third generation of a family that had supplied leather to Italian footwear houses since the 1950s. A mutual friend introduced them at a trade fair in Milan. They talked for four hours. About shoes. About art. About the kind of life they wanted to build.
Six months later, they opened their first workshop — the seed of what would grow into a full-scale Italian shoe factory. It was barely 40 square metres. They had one cutting table, two sewing machines, and no clients.
They knocked on doors. They carried samples in hand-stitched dust bags to every boutique in Florence, Milan, Rome. The answer was often the same: “Beautiful work. But we already have suppliers.”
Then one buyer, at a small luxury concept store in Bologna, took a chance. She placed an order for 12 pairs. Sophia and Oscar worked 16-hour days for three weeks. Every stitch was perfect. Every heel was balanced. Every shoe was wrapped by hand.
That buyer reordered. Then came a second boutique. Then a third. Then an international brand called, asking if they could produce a capsule collection. Word was spreading: there was a small Italian shoe manufacturer in the hills of Tuscany who could do what the big factories wouldn’t — small batch, handmade, zero compromise.
The workshop grew from 40 square metres to 400. From two artisans to twenty. From 12 pairs a month to hundreds. But one thing never changed: every pair still passed through Sophia’s final inspection and Oscar’s hands.
Fifteen Years of Crafting for Others — A Luxury Footwear OEM Legacy
For a decade and a half, Sophia and Oscar have been the invisible hands behind more than 50 mid-to-high-end footwear brands — spanning Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia. As a private label footwear manufacturer and OEM partner, their atelier has delivered full-grain leather pumps for Milan Fashion Week runways, hand-beaded bridal heels for Parisian couture maisons, cemented construction derby shoes for London’s Savile Row tailors, Blake-stitched loafers for New York boardrooms, and Goodyear-welted ankle boots for Tokyo concept stores. If it can be sketched, they can last it. If it can be imagined, they can stitch it into being.
As a specialist handmade Italian shoes manufacturer, their atelier focuses on:
- Handmade bespoke & made-to-order (MTO). From custom last development and upper pattern grading to hand-cutting, skiving, and edge finishing — every bespoke women’s footwear commission is built on a personalised last, with full traceability from raw hide to final polish. This is the heart of true luxury shoe manufacturing: no two pairs are identical because no two feet are.
- Bridal & occasion footwear. Hand-lasted satin courts with hand-set crystals, pearl-embellished block-heel sandals, and silk slingbacks crafted for the specific pitch, toe spring, and arch profile requested by designers — because a wedding shoe is not merely an accessory; it is a structural anchor for one of the most photographed days of a woman’s life. Our luxury bridal shoes have walked down aisles in Paris, London, New York, and Shanghai.
- Professional & boardroom footwear. Calfskin oxfords, polished penny loafers with bit hardware, and almond-toe block-heel pumps engineered for all-day wear — combining memory-foam sock lining, steel shank arch support, and leather outsoles with rubber forepart inserts for grip and durability. Designed for the woman who walks into a room and commands it.
- Seasonal ready-to-wear collections. Full production runs for A/W and S/S collections — from moodboard translation and material sourcing through prototyping, grading, cutting, assembly, and QC — all managed under one ceiling. We function as an end-to-end designer shoe factory for brands that demand seasonal drops without seasonal compromises.
Their atelier has become known for three things:
- Full-grain materials, zero shortcuts. Every hide is hand-selected from tanneries in Tuscany and Veneto. Lining leathers are vegetable-tanned. If a material does not meet their standard, it does not enter the workshop.
- Construction-grade craftsmanship. They still use hand-lasting — a 200-year-old technique where the upper is pulled, tacked, and set over the last by human hands. Every pair passes through 120+ individual operations. Hand-stitched aprons. Skived edges. Burnished toe caps. This is not decoration. This is structure.
- A refusal to compromise. When a brand asks for split leather instead of full-grain to hit a margin target, or requests cemented soles where Blake-stitching was spec’d, Sophia and Oscar say no. Not because they are difficult. Because their name — S-O-O-S — is on every last, every pattern, every sole, even when someone else’s label is on the insole.
Over 15 years, they have produced for more than 50 brands — from emerging designer labels launching their first collection, to established maisons refreshing a heritage line, to boutique retailers developing private-label footwear collections. For brands searching “where to find Italian shoe manufacturers for small brands” or “best luxury footwear OEM in Italy,” the answer has quietly been SOOS for a decade and a half. Some names are instantly recognisable. Most are not. What matters is that every single one trusted them with their reputation — and they never broke that trust.
The Fifteenth Anniversary
On their fifteenth wedding anniversary, sitting at a small trattoria in the hills outside Florence, Sophia said something that changed everything.
“We have spent fifteen years making other people’s dreams. When do we make our own?”
Oscar did not answer immediately. He reached into his pocket and placed a small leather notebook on the table. Inside were sketches — dozens of them. Designs Sophia had been refining in secret for over a year. Silhouettes inspired by Renaissance architecture. Colour palettes drawn from Tuscan sunsets. Heels shaped like the columns of Florentine cathedrals.
She had been waiting for him. He had been waiting for her.
That night, SOOS HEELS was born — not as a business plan, but as a declaration. After 15 years of saying “we can make that” to other brands, they decided it was time to say “we made this” to the world.
Why Now — and Why Our Own Brand
The luxury footwear industry has changed. Brands that once invested in craft now invest in marketing. Products are designed for Instagram, not for years of wear. The distance between the designer’s intention and the factory floor has become a chasm, filled with cost-cutting compromises that the customer never sees — but feels the moment she puts the shoe on.
Sophia and Oscar see this every day. They are the ones receiving the emails that say “can we use a slightly thinner leather to save 8%?” They are the ones who know exactly what is lost when that 8% is cut.
SOOS HEELS exists because someone needs to close the gap between design and making. When the person who sketches the shoe is married to the person who cuts the leather, there is no gap. There is only the idea, the hand, and the finished product — nothing lost in translation.
OEM & ODM — Custom Shoe Manufacturing, Our Foundation, Our Future
Launching our own brand does not mean turning our back on what built us.
For 15 years, Sophia and Oscar have been partners to brands around the world — transforming sketches into samples, moodboards into production runs, creative visions into commercial reality. As an Italian shoe factory offering OEM and ODM footwear production, that work is embedded in who we are. We will continue to offer custom shoe manufacturing and private label services with the same dedication, the same atelier, and the same uncompromising standards.
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) — Your Design, Our Craftsmanship
You bring the design. We bring the craftsmanship. Our atelier produces your collection — cut, lasted, stitched, and finished by the same hands that craft SOOS HEELS. Your label, our legacy. Whether you need 50 pairs of custom luxury heels or a full seasonal collection, our OEM footwear programme scales to your vision.
ODM (Original Design Manufacturing) — Your Vision, Our Creation
You bring the vision. We bring the design and the making. Our team works with you to develop a collection from concept to completion — trend research, material selection, prototyping, sampling, and full production. You focus on your brand. We handle the rest. For brands seeking an end-to-end designer shoe factory, our ODM service transforms a moodboard into a market-ready collection.
Why brands choose us for luxury footwear OEM & ODM:
- Factory-direct with integrated design centre. When you call, you speak to Sophia or Oscar — not a sales rep. When you visit, you walk the production floor and the design studio in the same day. Patterns are drafted upstairs. Samples are cut downstairs. No outsourced prototyping. No lost translation.
- Source-grade leather supply chain. Oscar’s family has worked with Tuscan and Veneto tanneries for three generations. We source directly from the beamhouse — crust leather, aniline finishes, vegetable-tanned vachetta. No middlemen. No trading company markups. Full traceability from raw hide to finished pair.
- Low minimum order quantities (MOQ from 50 pairs per style). Because we remember what it felt like to be a new brand asking someone to take a chance. We run pilot batches, test fits, and sample rounds without demanding volume commitments that suffocate emerging labels.
- 4–6 week lead time from confirmed sample sign-off to delivery. Our atelier is vertically integrated — pattern-making, cutting, closing, lasting, finishing, and QC all happen under one roof. No third-party delays. No fragmented supply chain.
- A partner, not just a supplier. We advise on material selection, construction method (Blake vs cemented vs Goodyear), cost engineering, and market positioning. Your collection’s success is the metric that matters. Our growth has always been built on the growth of the brands we serve.
What This Means for You
Whether you are a woman looking for a pair of handmade Italian shoes that will still be beautiful in 2036 — or a brand searching for an Italian shoe manufacturer who treats your collection like their own — you are in the right place.
SOOS HEELS is not a corporate venture. It is a family. It is 15 years of marriage. It is 15 years of craft. It is two people who fell in love with shoes — and with each other — and who decided that the best way to mark their anniversary was to finally put their own name on the door. A luxury women’s footwear brand born from a luxury footwear OEM legacy.
